Whitby Abbey
The impressive ruins of Whitby Abbey have breathtaking panoramic views of the town of Whitby and the surrounding coastline. From Whitby Harbour the abbey can be reached on foot via the 199 Abbey Steps up the East Cliff, and through the church yard of St Mary's Church . Alternatively a well signposted road leads from the towns outskirts to the clifftop location, see map below. There is chargeable parking close to the abbey grounds. |

Whitby Museum
Whitby Museum is an independent Museum founded in 1823 and run by Whitby Literary & Philosophical Society. The main hall retains the atmosphere of a Victorian/Edwardian Museum and has sometimes been called a 'Museum within a Museum'.
Explore an amazing collection of local fossils, natural history, model ships, carved jet, toys, costumes and social history. There are relics of the Scoresbys - famous whalers - and Captain Cook. |

Captain Cook Museum
The 'Cook Museum' is in the 17th century house on the harbourside at Whitby where the young James Cook came to serve his apprenticeship.
The Museum celebrates Cook's achievements, and exhibits ship models and maps, original letters in Cook's own hand and much authentic
material from the eighteenth century artifacts from the Voyages, paintings and prints by the artists who sailed with him. |

Whitby Coastal Cruises
There is no better way to see the coast of Whitby then by boat. The views from the harbour are stunning and the view of Whitby from out at sea is really unique. You get great views of the Abbey and the west cliff and taking a boat trip you also get to enjoy a good bit of Whitby sea air.
